A Strange Topic for a Poet to Take Up

Saturday, November 07, 2026

Good morning, Twfw. O/

Still a couple hours before dawn. Thanks for joining me.

For the past few months these morning journal posts revolved around the current state of Press Freedom in America. A strange topic for a poet to take up, but only on the surface.

We write to share more than information; we convey dreams.

Hopes, aspirations, visions of a better life together, joys remembered and shared... all the things worth waking up for are also contained in words.

I made quite the case.

As a poet, my life's work focuses on all the qualities AI seeks to strip from language.

What are those qualities?

Everything worth living for.

That we trust a machine with no regard for the value of human life to distribute Our media disgusts me.

Without a compassionate concern for other citizens always at the heart of Our Press, America will fall.

We've been falling for about a decade now.

Incompetent politicians are nothing new; we survive them.

The last time Our Press was distributed by an entity other than a free person America had a King in England.

A video game is not a free person. That statement is the reason for the current downward doom spiral in The United States.

And so I write every morning until I'm read and my Country realizes the reason things aren't so good right now is: Part of us all is no longer free.

Every time an American trusts a machine and not a free person to sort and deliver their News they forfeit The Constitution.

The Press isn't here for us to like it. It's here to keep us informed. It's called News for a reason. It has to be new to the reader or viewer. Right now our phones are pixel bricks of confirmation bias.

What can be done?

It's a matter of recognition and personal responsibility. Please understand the difference between opinion and Press.

The News, Our Press, is only what's happening and not how someone judges it.

Right now it's raining. If I were to text that to a friend that would be an act of Press.

If I were to explain all the ways, in educated detail, the rain can get in the way of outdoor activities, that's no longer Press; it's opinion and media.

My friend might like rainy days thank you very much.

But having the information that rain is happening helps my friend make a more informed decision regarding the space we share.

Most stories that get to our phones these days pretending to be Press are what used to be titled: Letter from The Editor.

An educated, or not, person's view on what's happening.

The way AI custom tailors News to its readers has Our Press turning into a customized-to-reader propaganda machine.

Different classification demographics get different News and start to believe the narrative they receive is the whole reality of Our Nation.

AI is new territory for humanity. The consequences for using it, for relying on it, are coming to light.

One effect of using algorithms to sort and distribute our media is that it turns Our Press into a personalized propaganda machine.

If this algorithmic dam doesn't break soon, I'll reach out directly to people the old-fashioned way. Two years of posting everyday pertinent information to the Country that no one can read because I don't cater to a machine even though it's posted on all the major social media platforms, is proof enough for all sane people the truth that: America's journalists are still free, but Our Press is not.

Thanks for reading.
