Artists, The Online World Needs How We Use Our Words

Good morning, Twfw. O/

A poet in This Internet Era ought to feel like a King. The ability to share the written word is so simple now, the audience so varied and vast... what happened?

I address America because it's my home, but this message applies to the whole free world, too.

So much of our social interactions are text based now. Text messaging replaces speech for a lot of people's chosen and preferred means of communication.

Our freedom of speech laws must be adjusted to better suit our text based interactions.

There's also the question of accountability. Shouting 'fire' in a crowded theatre means you better mean it or there's going to be some repercussions.

Shouting 'fire' on most social media platforms right now is just business as usual.

There's a great opportunity for building stronger communities online. Sensationalism, though, still rules as business as usual online.

The more we grow to depend on online the more this must change. Humanity can't survive on shock and awe as the means of standard communication.

What can be done?

Artists. O/ The online world needs how we use our words.

Science is a nice world view if you're comfortable living in the past.

Creation! Life alive! Art! The Present Tense.

Yes, Science I present to all your measuring glories, AI included: The Present Tense. (We'll get to The Future later.)

I love Science. It gives us better Legos to build with. But that is all it is for: to help us create a better Present Tense.

Here's what, linguistically, The Present is for and also why AI is hazardous:

Consider Language The Software of Humanity. Like all software it's constantly in need of updates.

Every time a living person uses language the software receives an update.

In the lens of linguistics The Present Tense is akin to an 'update in progress' message on your outdated PC or phone.

It is the responsibility of the living to be caretakers for words. The growth of each word depends on every breath used to shape syllables, every thumb-slap or keypress, every glide and scratch of a pen or pencil.

AI can't do what you and me do;
We make it new.

I don't blame Science for overlooking it; they're not built to measure it. The living present moment is for Artists and Lovers; Science lives in the past. We can't measure it if it hasn't been made.

Yes, fellow nerds, that means everything in The Universe. Something to wonder about...

Back to work with The Dragons.

Congratulations for reading.
