Independence Day in America, a numerically significant one: 250 years into our experiment in freedom.
How's it going?
The Press is a for hire misplaced-its-moral-compass mess, the government is a house of contradiction, our people, though disgruntled by all of it, keep our spirits up and strong.
Life goes on amid the circus, is the state of the experience of The American Citizen these days.
We have this shared dream, that all people are created equal, that with hardwork and a noble purpose anyone here can make a good life for themselves. Lately, we haven't been repaying the dreamers.
Those most comfortable in our Nation, at present, do little to no work. They invest in The Market and not The Dream of America.
Do work you love and build your life around it... turned into: Make a little money, invest it well, and retire early.
A strange dynamic formed. Miserable millionaires with little to no purpose other than recreation matched with an exhausted working class doing the grunt work to keep the place running.
Where's The American Dream?
Now a millionaire/billionaire may heartfully tell a working class person to invest, "Make your money make money, so you don't have to work so many hours."
Considerate advice, but somebody's got to do the labor. Paying the bills doesn't keep the lights on; our work force does. The Stock Market doesn't exist if every American decides never to go to work again.
Work: Any activity that adds to the progress of humanity.
Money is a recognition of service. Service is work. How did we forget?
Honest pay for honest work went from being The American Dream to being A Pipe Dream.
And so our hardworking people are naturally upset. The right thing to do here would be to compensate them better. But what's happened instead?
When we devalue service and focus solely on the currency, money becomes the entity of importance and not the worker.
So a Nation full of upset unthanked and underpaid workers are an easy audience for an opportunistic media. Enter shock jocks and the modern media machine.
We could help each other and not money, could give thanks and respect where it's due.
The dream of America is a life full of individual purpose. A place where our greatest hopes and aspirations are free to grow. Our relationship to the dollar is stifling The American Dream.
A life filled with purposeful work is the only way to know happiness. A large bank account only prolongs misery if you have nothing to look forward to when you wake up in the morning.
A Country where every citizen looks forward to waking up everyday is the ultimate aim of The American Dream.
Happy 250th, how are we doing?
