It's the difference between telling a story to an eight year old versus telling the same story to an eighty-eight year old.

Same story different experience.

If I were just blabbing to myself, I'd bounce around topics more, might use a few personal names, might stop midsentence and pick up on some prose I'm working on... Audience matters.

My rescued hound dog Abe is on the loveseat cleaning and chewing his nails. I'm wondering how to get a 'pedicure' pun into the journal entry.

July, even as far as July goes, has been hot. August looks to bring relief.

The horizon line is sunshine off a metallic rim over evergreens.
