The Only Problem with America Right Now

Wonder fell. A sentence. A title. A truth seldom discussed. Let's change that.

If our means of measure strip us of our wonder, we're measuring wrong.

Every so often a fiery sphere shines light on this spinning globe we call home in a spectacle called morning.

Fascination and awe are completely understandable and healthy emotions.

What's up with Life, with The Sun? With human drama and a thing called Love? And Beauty? What happened to Beauty?

Every sunrise and newborn is Beautiful. How did we forget?

Machines make pretty pictures and arrange already written words on phone screens.... There's a huger than huge star-ball of fire and gas in a place we understand so little about we call it Space, like what's in our left shoe if it's not on our foot.

Life is here for our witness and our creations.

One quality of sunlight never recorded in any Science book is wonder. It's the light that fuels artists and creative minds.

We don't give it enough empirical recognition. But water is wet and every beam of sunlight brings wonder.

I wake early, catch it, and set it down here as it occurs to me.

To start each day doing something I love and to record what's worth wondering about in each sunrise.

Lately there's been a lot of concern for my Country in each entry. Adjusting to Artificial Intelligence has left us without a Free Press. Each sunrise the past couple of months focused on sharing that reality.

Every civilization is in guinea pig mode in regards to AI right now. One consequence we didn't consider is happening.

On the surface it seems benign, even a good idea... we use these algorithms to give people more of what they want to see.

But that's not how the reality translates or what a free press is for.

Most American cellphones right now are pixel light bricks of confirmation bias.

The problem, the only problem, with America at present, is our News is no longer able to be new. Everything else is a symptom of that fact.

It's a matter of recognition and personal responsibility.

Please continue to have what you want to see on your phone. Just, for the sake of America, stop calling it News.

I mentioned it in an earlier post: The Government needs to get involved.

Like how medications have to get the stamp of approval from The FDA, so too our News needs some basic metrics to pass in order to be considered Press.

It's shaky but necessary ground. These metrics aren't about limiting freedom; they're about insuring it.

We still have access to all we read and watch right now, this isn't about censorship. But if a story doesn't have a press stamp of approval, it's entertainment or opinion.

The Press is here to keep us informed, not to feed us propaganda; certainly not to entertain us.

Media wants to steer its audience; Press only informs.

Press should be dull. Media should inspire or annoy.

Wonder Fell, at present, is Media to help Free The Press.

Something like a weather forecast is Press. A ranting raving meteorologist going on about how dangerous hailstorms can be might be helpful, but it's not News; it's Media.

What's happening is Press. What certain people believe it means is Media. Opinions, regardless how educated, are never News.

Press is what's happening. Media is how we feel and think about it.

It's a sunny Autumn day with a slight breeze. <– Press.

Days like today are some of the best times to be alive in New England. <– Media.

Press let's everyone know what is going on so we can create our own Media about it.

Wonder Fell is soon to become Press worthy because of the post linked in the next paragraph. This site's very loud invisibility is something that is most definitely happening that we all need to create our own Media about for the sake of a healthy humanity.
