The Degeneration of Press Freedom in The United States

Good morning, Twfw. O/

"Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life."
-A Sign in My Sixth Grade Classroom

Still true all these decades later.

During these days of AI's infancy while so many walk around with faces pinned to cellphone screens in an algorithmic daze, I thought a conversation every morning from a poet whose work is literally language creation might be of some help.

Glad you're here. There's much to discuss.

For the past few months just about every morning's post discussed how The American Press is no longer free due to the algorithms controlling our media distribution. Our phones have become: Pixel Bricks of Confirmation Bias, as one post puts it.

There's plenty of discussion on that here.

The degeneration of Press Freedom in The United States is not a planned event, but a result of a lack of foresight by The Tech Industry and Our Federal Government.

A free journalist needing permission from a machine or a king to get your news to you is the same process in the context of Our Constitution.

Tailor suited News isn't news; it's confirmation bias.

The Press isn't there for us to like it. It's here to keep us informed about what is happening.

What's happening is not what people feel about recent events or who they blame. Those stories are not Press; they're Media.

This is a dire distinction to make: Press is dull information; Media inspires or annoys.

Press exists to inform; Media gives an opinion.

Every free citizen has to make up their own mind, their own Media, about what The Press means in order for freedom to continue.

Receiving stories that reinforce opinions on current events isn't being a good citizen. It's being a loyal supporter of everything Our Constitution is built to defend against.

This is why are News begins to feel like propaganda. Because it's not actually News: It's Media.

And so I write these articles every morning and send them into The Internet Void while my Nation burns down from the inside by cellphone light.

Congratulations for reading.
