Social Media High

Whenever I go online I feel as though I'm navigating the halls of my high school again, not as a student, as an observer.

There's X: Everyone whoever dreamed of being popular lives there. The same sensationalism that makes teens popular raises view counts on that platform.

There's BlueSky, where the Alt-cool crowd gathers. "Just cool doin' our own thing... over on BlueSky."

Facebookers and Intsa-Threaders start school spirit rallies and decorate the gym for dances.

Substackers spend their free period in the library doing homework so they have more time to read when they get home.

Tik-Tokers and YouTubers skip class to go to the mall or the beach for better views and scenery.

I'd like an Internet hub devoted to Artists; not just bookworms, the makers of what fills books and galleries.

Perhaps one day I'll start one. No AI necessary: Artists are the label makers of our own dreams, thank you very much.

Back to the high school metaphor...

Mastodon is the teacher's lounge.

Reddit is, of course, for the nerd in a social kind of mood.

And the jocks? Why bother with social media when there's video games!
